The fire was doused and the situation was brought under control within 30 minutes, according to fire brigade officials. (Special Arrangement)As many as 17 four-wheelers, mostly luxury cars, parked in an open space of a garage near the Aai Mata Temple in Bibwewadi area, caught fire in the early hours of Friday.
The control room of the Pune Fire Brigade received a call around 3.20 am that grass and bushes near the Aai Mata Temple caught fire.
Soon, fire tenders and water tankers were pressed into action. It was found that cars including BMW, Mercedes and Range Rover, parked in the open space of a garage named ‘Matin Car Cares’ were gutted. There were huge flames and smoke emanating from the spot.
Fire officials said there was no worker in the garage. Firemen doused the flames and brought the situation under control within 30 minutes. Then the ‘cooling operation’ was carried out.
No casualties were reported in the incident. But as many as 17 costly luxurious cars that had come to the garage for repairs were badly damaged, said a fire official.
A probe was launched to ascertain the cause behind the fire.
