The declaration of the final list of the Savitribai Phule Pune University Postdoctoral Fellowship (SPPU-PDF) programme has been delayed. After the application process began in September, the final list of awardees is yet to be announced.
PhD holders in Sciences, Technology, Commerce, Humanities and Languages who are Maharashtra domiciles can apply for the fellowship. This time around, 79 candidates applied for the 20 available seats. The fellowship notification said that the results would be declared on the website within three to four months of applications, but this has not been the case.
To promote post-PhD research, Dr Nitin Karmalkar, during his tenure as Vice Chancellor, decided to start a post doctoral fellowship at SPPU in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, the fellowship process was not implemented for the next four years. After this gap, the fellowship was restarted in September 2020.
Pro-vice-chancellor of SPPU Dr Parag Kalkar told The Indian Express that the final list for the fellowship will be published in the next two weeks. He said that there was no specific reason for the delay.
