With only 1,784 applications coming in for 11,260 seats in Class XI Arts stream this year,85 per cent seats in the discipline will now remain vacant.
As many as 57,741 students are vying for 60,080 seats available for Class XI in various streams. While the inclination for science stream is higher,applicants match the availability of seats in commerce stream. All the 20 application acceptance centres in the city saw huge rush on the last day of submission of application forms.
There are 18,855 seats available for science stream but the number of applicants is 19,965. According to Sunil Magar,chairman of centralised admission committee for Class XI admissions,the colleges might be given additional 20 per cent seats for science stream to accommodate the extra load.
There are 4,475 seats available in bifocal stream and the number of applicants is 4,250. Rekha Palshikar,vice-chairperson of the committee,said the provisional merit list for bifocal courses will be displayed on July 22.
Students can file their grievances regarding the list on July 23 and final list will be out on July 24. Admissions to bifocal courses will begin on July 25, she said.
Admission to other streams will start on August 5 as per the merit list. Palshikar also said the issue of misinterpretation of best-five scheme for ICSE students was solved.
The committee members contacted all the students and 27 of them opted for best-five, she said.
