Mango prices come down

Owing to increase in the arrival of mangoes at the Gultekdi market, the prices of the mango have finally come down. The arrival of Ratnagiri Alphonso has gone up considerably from 3000-4500 boxes per day in April to 6,000-6,500 boxes now. Due to the increased arrival, the price of the fruit has also come down to Rs 200-300 per dozen from its price in April when it was being sold at a whopping Rs 700-1200 per dozen. The arrival of the other varities of fruit has also gone up. The Gultekdi market is receiving around 40,000 boxes of Karnatak Alphonso every day and 5,000 boxes of Pairy variety of mango. “Because of the bad weather the arrival of the Ratnigiri Alphonso this year was considerably lower than last year. This led to increase in its prices, thus helping the sale of Karnatak alphonso. “We are hoping that the arrival will go slightly up by this week-end,” said Shivlal Bhosale, wholesaler.
