An explosion in the High Explosives Factory (HEF) in Khadki caused panic on Thursday afternoon. An official statement by HEF confirmed that the explosion took place around 2.40 pm. Calling it an ‘unusual occurrence’, HEF stated, “It is a routine job of waste explosive burning during which loud sound was heard but there was no damage to property or injury to anyone in the incident.”

However, the noise of the explosion created panic among local residents for some time. Some window panes in the surrounding areas were reportedly broken due to the high intensity sound. Police teams visited the HEF to collect information about the situation.
Deputy Commissioner of police (zone IV) Manoj Patil told media persons that his teams visited the spot and sought a report from the HEF. He also said there was nothing to worry about as disposal of leftover explosive was a part of routine work at the HEF.
