Eunuch held for attacking ‘lover’ escapes from cops

A 27-year-old eunuch, arrested for attempting to murder a man with whom the suspect allegedly had a relationship,on Saturday escaped from police custody.

A 27-year-old eunuch, arrested for attempting to murder a man with whom the suspect allegedly had a relationship,on Saturday escaped from police custody.

Haveli police said that Kiran Narsing Koli,arrested on Wednesday following a complaint from a woman whose husband Shridhar was attacked,escaped while he was being taken to the Vishrambag police station by auto-rickshaw.

Police said it was learnt that Shridhar and Koli had a relationship and Koli had been nursing a grudge with him ever since Shridhar’s marriage.

AD Patil,police inspector with Haveli police station,said,“Koli had some health complaints. After a medical check-up on Saturday,he was being taken to Vishrambag police station due to availability of space there in a rickshaw and was accompanied by a constable. At Shanipar Chowk on Bajirao Road,Koli pushed aside the constable and escaped. We have launched a search operation.”

Pratap Dighavkar,Superintendent of Police (Pune rural),said,“When police vehicles are unavailable as they are on patrol or other purposes,we often transport undertrials rickshaws.” He added,“An inquiry will be initiated against the constable escorting the accused and action will be taken after we get a report on the matter.”
