Ensure prasad distributed during Ganesh fest is safe,FDA tells mandals

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has appealed to mandals to ensure that sweets distributed as prasad during Ganesh Festival are safe

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has appealed to mandals to ensure that sweets distributed as prasad during Ganesh Festival are safe. Renewing its drive against adulterated sweets,the FDA asked citizens to be careful while purchasing and consuming sweets during the festival.

FDA has directed mandal volunteers to note the addresses of people donating sweets during the aarti and also the details of wholesale shops from where they purchase material to make sweets. They have also urged the mandals to keep record of shop owners from whom they procure food items.

“The distribution of stale sweets should be avoided,” said Shashikant Kekare,Joint Commissioner,FDA.

FDA will also hold a meeting with sweet shop owners and appeal to them to check the quality of milk and other ingredients including rawa,khoya,maida used to make sweets.

Kekare said FDA officials are also spreading awareness against the consumption and sale of gutka and have directed the mandals to not accept and put up advertisements related to various forms of tobacco.
