Eight-year-old run over in Mohammadwadi

An eight-year-old boy lost his life after coming under the wheels of a tanker near Nyati estate society at Mohammedwadi on Sunday morning.

An eight-year-old boy lost his life after coming under the wheels of a tanker near Nyati estate society at Mohammedwadi on Sunday morning. The Kondhwa police have arrested the driver in connection with the incident.

Police said Byanappa Pujari is the name of the victim. His family resides at a labour camp near Nyati Estate.

At around 7 am on Sunday,the tanker was at Mohammedwadi to supply water to labourers residing the camp. When the tanker was leaving the camp,Pujari,who was playing,came under the wheels of the truck. He sustained head injuries and died on the spot,police said. The truck driver fled the scene. Yamanappa Pujari (35) has filed a complaint with the Kondhwa police station.

Police sub-inspector Sunil Waydande said,“ The tanker used to come to Mohammedwadi everyday to supply water at the labour camp.

He added that on Sunday morning some residents alerted the Kondhwa police that an accident had occurred at Mohammedwadi.

A police team immediately reached the spot and pacified the angry labourers and citizens who had gathered. “We found of that the truck driver had fled after the incident. We assured the people of swift action seized the tanker. A police team got the details of the owner of the tanker from the registration number,” he said.

Waydande said that after contacting the owner of the tanker,they managed to arrest the truck driver late on Sunday afternoon.

He was identified as Rajesh Harishchandra Mathkar (30),a resident of Mohammedwadi. Meanwhile,the body of the body was sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem.
