Kharge said those leaders who left the party are compromising with their ideology. (File)CONGRESS national president Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday exhorted party leaders and workers not to get scared by the ED and other agencies which are being ”misused” by the Modi government to target opposition leaders.
“Some leaders are leaving the party fearing investigation by the Modi Government and joining the party. The Congress has fought the Britishers and won independence for the country. The Congress has had the tradition of having fighters and martyrs in its ranks. The Congress leaders from the past have never compromised with their ideology despite all pressure being brought upon them,” said Kharge while addressing party leaders and workers virtually at Lonavala on Friday.
Former chief minister Ashok Chavan who quit the Congress recently was raided by ED and Income Tax. After he quit the party and joined BJP, the Congress had alleged that he left the party due to pressure of ED and Income Tax.
Kharge said those leaders who left the party are compromising with their ideology. “For years when they were with Congress, they stuck to our secular ideology. And now they are trying to embracing the communal ideology of BJP. Have they thought deeply what they are doing ? It is clear that they are going for personal gains and ideology does not matter to them,” he said.
Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict on electoral bonds scheme, Kharge said, “The Supreme Court verdict should be hailed by one and all. The verdict has come because the Congress party during its regime has implemented the Right to Information Act. The apex court has clearly laid emphasis on right to information of citizens while delivering its verdict in the electoral bonds scheme.”
Urging party to gear up for the ensuing elections, Kharge said, “The MVA will fight elections together in Maharashtra as part of the INDIA bloc. The INDIA block despite all the odds was sticking together at national level and will fight elections in all states.”
