Any individual, who comes to the city, often carries with him his treasure trove of dreams to be realised amidst the urban madness. While a few lucky men realise the worth of their dreams, for the rest who fail to distinguish it from reality- it remains a continuous fight against obstacles steadily turning towards failure. The play,Dayashankar Ki Diary,an amalgamation of humour, satire and frustration best portrays it when the protagonist is incapable of resolving the tussle between his fantasies and the drab realities.

The play is about a small town man who comes to the city with dreams of getting into films. And despite facing rejection,he continues to build fantasies keeping away from reality, which eventually leads to loosing control while bridging the gap of dreams and realities.

The play that was written by Nadira Babbar opened a decade back had veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi playing the role of the protagonist. The one act play in the city will have Rakesh Shah, the co-founder member and voice instructor of Swatantrata Theatre in the protagonist’s role. While Molik Desai has worked on the music,Suniket Gandhi will be doing the art direction. “I have been working in theatre for almost seven years and have ample experience. However the wait for the big break in films always remains and it is a struggle to reach there. A lot of us will be able to relate ourselves with the play and the situations. Although many are heartbroken over their failure, negotiation is very necessary to accept and move on with whatever you have achieved,” adds Shah who has been conducting several plays and workshops for the Hindi audiences in the city along with the team and also adds that theatre fails to get the desired response as compared to the other mediums.

The play is an entertainment act with song and dance sequences incorporated as Desai adds,”It has a lot of melody especially with tunes from the film Ishqiya and Dil Chahta Hai incorporated in it,along with various musical sequences pertaining to romance, annoyanceand so on which have been put across with the help of music.”

The play will be staged on May 8 at 8 pm at Swatantra Theatre, next to BMCC.
