Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) (R&DE (E)),the city- based systems laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO),has been awarded the Silicon Trophy for 2012. The laboratory bagged the award for outstanding contribution to defence research.
At a function held at DRDO Bhavan recently,Dr S Guruprasad,director,R&DE(E) received the trophy from Defence Minister A K Antony in the presence of Jitendra Singh,Minister of State for Defence and Vijay Kumar Saraswat,the outgoing Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri,Secretary,Department of Defence,and director general,DRDO,besides others.
A release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB),Defence Wing,said,The award is in recognition of R&DE (E)s contribution towards developing and delivering state-of-the-art systems in the areas of combat-engineering,field-defence and Nuclear-Biological-Chemical collective protection,weapon-support Systems,composites and robotics.
On the occasion,V V Parlikar,associate director of R&DE(E),was awarded the Scientist of the Year Award-2012.
This is in recognition to his significant contribution to the design and development of missile launchers and ground-support equipment for various programmes of DRDO leading to the establishment of indigenous capabilities and achieving self-reliance in the filed, the release added.
