* Tied,gagged body found in bathroom; gold,cash missing
A woman was on Monday found murdered in the bathroom of a flat at Handewadi Road,her hands and legs tied with rope and mouth gagged with tape. Preliminary investigations reveal that the 30-year-old woman,Sanju Samrag Tamang,was employed as a domestic help at the house and her killers had looted gold ornaments and cash from the house.
Police said Sanju had been staying in the two-bedroom apartment of a businessman,Sukhbahadur Tamang (42),at Ganga Village,Handewadi Road,for the past one year and was serving as a domestic help. Police said Sukhbahadur and his daughters,aged nine and seven years,used to live in the house.
On Monday morning,Sukhbahadur left for work and his daughters went for tuitions. The girls returned at around 1.30 pm and found the door of their apartment locked. They knocked at the door and rang the bell but there was no response.
The girls informed their father,who reached there around 5 pm and opened the door with his keys. He found the house vandalised and informed the police. A team of Wanavdi police rushed to the spot.
Police found Sanjus body in the bathroom. The killers had tied her hands and legs with a rope,gagged her mouth with a sticky tape and strangulated her with a nylon rope,police said.
Senior cops including additional commissioner of police (crime) A D Shinde,deputy commissioner (crime) Rajesh Bansode,deputy commissioner (Zone IV) Sanjay Jadhav,assistant commissioner V T Pawar,inspectors Bajirao Mohite,Ajit Khadke,Sunil Pawar and others reached the crime scene for investigations.
The two girls reportedly told police that when they had left home at around 9 am,a man had come to see Sanju. The man had tea at the house. The girls did not know what happened after that as they went for tuitions.
Gold ornaments of 1.5 tolas Rs 25,000 in cash were missing from the house. A complaint of murder and robbery was lodged against unidentified suspects at Wanavdi police station.
Police said there was no CCTV cameras in the building. Only one security guard was present. Investigation is on to identify killers and find the motive.
The two girls are in a state of shock. We are trying to get information from them. It is too premature to say anything at this stage, said deputy commissioner Bansode.
