Sharad Modaks CD,comprising all the episodes of the Bhagwad Gita,is targetted towards the youth to instill values and peace in their lives
He fondly recalls the time when as a young boy his uncle would teach him the episodes of the Shrimad Bhagwad Gita. When we would go to a temple,he would gather my brothers and me and sit outside to give us sermons. He would sing all the episodes and we slowly learnt them by heart, smiles 63-year-old Sharad Modak, who has recently released a CD on the Bhagwad Gita.
The CD is especially targeted towards the youth. When you listen to it,it fills you with peace and it eases stress. Today, youngsters deal with so much of tension and stress. This is an ideal way of improving their concentration and focus, says Modak, who is a retired senior manager of Bank of Maharashtra and who also had his own consultancy services in accounting.
The main teaching of the Bhagwad Gita,as he explains,is that those who promote faith and religion will always be protected as the higher power will destroy all evil. In todays times, that evil can stand for qualities such as anger, jealousy and so on, he says,as he describes the teaching in Sanskrit.
The youth is the strength of the nation. And thus they need to be guided with these essential values of the Gita in order to benefit the country, he says, adding,Unfortunately,no such teachings are imparted in schools. When I studied at NMV School ,we were taught the twelfth and fifteenth episodes. And now,it is my humble effort to teach the same and more to the new generation.
It was two months back that he decided to release such a CD. It was timed with my sixty-third birthday in February, he smiles. The episodes in the CD have been sung in Sanskrit by Sangita Ranade and Modak taught her the exact pronounciations. He is joyous that 200 copies have already been sold at a nominal price. My aim is to circulate one lakh copies of the CD, he says.
And he hopes that schools too will tie up with him to use the teachings for the knowledge of students. Tie-ups with Muktangan English School and Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya are in the pipeline, he says. For the last five years,I have been handing out small cash prizes to students at Muktangan English School for Bhagwad Gita competitions. It is a way to encourage them to learn more. Hopefully,my efforts will soon cover all the schools of Pune, he smiles.
