Hes been the angry father of Aishwarya Rai in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Be it Bollywood or Kalat Nakalat or Barrister, his memorable play that has been a benchmark in Marathi theatre, actor Vikram Gokhale needs no introduction. And after having ruled the audiences hearts for years, the veteran actor is all set to make his directorial debut, with the film Aaghat for which Gokhale is currently shooting in the city.
I have wanted to direct a film for quite some time but for me to take up the step, the theme of the film needed to be that strong. When I read the story on which the film is based,I was moved and convinced that if I have to direct films, this is the beginning, says Gokhale.
The film includes a strong starcast such as Gokhale himself along with Mukta Barve,Raja Shivachhatrapati fame Amol Kolhe making his silver screen debut,Aniket Vishwasrao,Suhas Joshi,Anant Jog,Arun Nalawade,Surekha Kudchi,Shashank Shende and Manoj Joshi. Human beings are known to touch the feet of doctors after Gods. But unfortunately, even the medical profession these days is corrupted and enveloped in political dirt. The film in two hours ten minutes will depict various questions one needs to ask the medical system, says Gokhale whose style is sure to cross the basic limits of the subject and pose various pertinent questions.
Every thing is interlinked and in order to fight against the system, many other established practices in various fields are questioned in the film. We have been working on the smallest of the aspects of the film such as the title. Initially,it was supposed to be operation, but taking into consideration the relevance and the effect that the film is created to make,we thought of naming it Aaghat, meaning impact, Gokhale concludes.
The organisers are also planning for the release of the film in London in April- May.
