If civic or district officials who are at the mercy of the state government get frequent transfer orders, the scene is no different in cantonments. Unlike state officials who are transferred within the state,Cantonment CEOs are shunted from one state to another.
Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) chief executive officer K Venkat Nagi Reddy said the transfers during his 15-year service have come with both advantages and disadvantages. I think the advantage is that you get to see different parts of the country, but the disadvantage is that it becomes difficult to adjust to new social environment. The difficulty in knowing the language affects social interaction. But overall I have cherished the learning part, he said. Reddy said he has not faced any premature transfers so far. In my case the transfer has come on routine, within a period of 2-3 years, he said.
Khadki Cantonment Board CEO S V R Chandrashekhar (38) said his childrens education has been affected because of transfers during his career spanning 13 years.
I have never been unduly transferred, but the transfers have affected the education of my children. He said before his tenure in Khadki,he was serving in Madhya Pardesh. Before that I served in Karnataka. It has been an ordeal shifting the children from one medium to other medium school as the langauges in the states are different.
Chandrashekhar said he has faced five transfers in his career.
