Dhavalpurikar dead

Veteran tamasha artiste Chandrakant Dhavalpurikar passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness.

Veteran tamasha artiste Chandrakant Dhavalpurikar passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness. He took part in tamashas ,the famous folk art form of Maharashtra,for more than four decades. He was not keeping good health for the last two years and was recently admitted to YCM Hospital in Pimpri. He is survived by wife,two sons and two daughters.Dhavalpurikar used to play villainous characters in tamasha . He toured across the state and even out of the state to perform with his troupe. The troupe used to reach out to remote villages and entertain the public there.

Zenda Phadakla Kranticha,Kayada Amchya Bapacha,Maharashtra Zukat Nahi,Mumbaicha Hamal and Gavalyachi Rambha were some of the famous folk plays of Dhavalpurikar.

5 students hit by H1N1 virus
A student each of Vidya Vinay Niketan at Pimple Nilakh,Abhinav mandir in Pimpri,Anjathnagar corporation school at Akurdi,St Joseph’s school at Pashan and MIT college at Kothrud have been infected with the HINI virus,a statement issued here by the health department on Friday said.
