Deshmukh continues winning streak,defeats sixth seed

Wildcard Sahil Deshmukh of Pune continued his winning spree at the Rachana Lifestyle Trophy-Om Dalvi Memorial National Ranking Junior Tennis Tournament being organized by the PYC Hindu Gymkhana on their tennis courts,upsetting sixth seed Prashant Sudamani 8-2 to enter the semifinals of the Boys under -18 event yesterday.

Nishant Rebello managed to win the battle of the qualifiers,thrashing Bruhad Mankad 8-1 to book his place in the last four.The Puneites had mixed luck in the Under-16 boys draw however,with Rushabh Ranawat battling hard to clinch a keenly-contested match against Jaganmay Panigrahi in the tiebreaker,while Yash Agarwal found himself at the losing end of a similar situation against Mumbai’s Parth Nalin Shah,losing the tiebreaker to miss out on a quarterfinal spot.In the girls’ section,another local player Avanee Gosavi had a mixed day at the tournament. She nearly pulled off a huge upset in the girls’ under-18 event,but finally succumbed to the superiority of seventh seed Anusha Das 6-5(7-3).

However,she made up for that disappointing loss in the Under 16 girls’ singles event,accounting for Jinisha Patel 6-4 to enter the last-eight stage.

Simran Dade suffered a scare against Nikita Deshmukh,before edging her out 6-5(4) to progress to the quarterfinals as well.
