The crime branch of Pune police have arrested three persons,including a husband-wife duo,from Mumbai in connection with a fake currency racket.
The three suspects,Suman Das (30),husband Raju Das (35) and an alleged accomplice,Arvind alias Mithusingh Vannesingh Karnavat (25),are from Punjabi Colony,Sion Koliwada,Mumbai.
Police said they seized 176 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from the suspects. The notes look original and its hard to detect that they are fake,said the cops.
Acting on a tip-off,a crime branch team led by inspector Ram Pathare nabbed Karnavar near Ambika lodge in Raviwar Peth on Thursday. Police said they recovered 100 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination from him.
Police said that during interrogation,he revealed he had got the notes from Suman and Raju. Police went to Mumbai and picked them up. The cops said they seized 76 more fake notes of the same denomination from their house in Punjabi Colony.
Police have also seized three mobile phones from the suspects. Investigations are on to find if they had any link with fake currency racket operating from foreign countries. The suspects are believed to have circulated fake currency notes in Pune,Mumbai and Shirdi.
The seized notes are of high quality and look very much like original notes. Investigation is on to know the source of the fake currency, said sub-inspector Survase,the investigation officer.
The three suspects have been remanded in police custody till January 31.
