A man and a woman, who had come to the emergency ward of Sassoon General Hospital early Tuesday morning for medical attention, allegedly went on a rampage after being asked to wait outside, damaging hospital property and assaulting security personnel.

Police have identified the duo as Swapnil Barku Dhangar (25) and Rani Babulal Patil (25), both residents of Manjri Budruk in Haveli taluka. An FIR was lodged later in the day by security guard Sandeep Jadhav, a member of the Maharashtra Security Force.

As per the FIR, the incident took place around 1 am at Ward Number 40, the emergency section of the hospital. The couple arrived in a rickshaw, with Dhangar informing hospital staff that Patil had sustained injuries after falling off a bike. At the time, Casualty Medical Officer Dr Sanket Gore was on duty.

When security staff asked Dhangar to wait outside and allowed only Patil to see the doctor, the two allegedly began creating a ruckus. Dhangar and Patil reportedly assaulted security personnel with wooden sticks, smashed glass panels, and damaged an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine.

The duo has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons, damage to public property, criminal force against a public servant, and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace.

Police said they have been arrested and issued notices to appear for further investigation.
