(Express File Photo) Pune city police have arrested a couple for allegedly stealing costly bicycles just for fun. Police have identified the accused persons as Vijay Rajendra Pathak (36) and Diana D’Souza (25), both currently residing in an apartment in Talegaon.
Police said that on August 6, a bicycle of a branded company was stolen from the parking of a building in Anand Nagar on Sinhagad Road. While investigating the case, a team of assistant police inspector Sachin Nikam checked videos footage of about 150 CCTV cameras at different locations to get clues about the thieves.
While patrolling Sinhagad road area, policemen intercepted the accused couple near Wadgaon bridge while they were carrying a bicycle on a two wheeler on October 26.
Police said interrogation of the couple revealed they had stolen several bicycle “for fun”.
Police arrested the couple and recovered 14 bicycles worth Rs 3.5 lakh from their possession. Police have so far confirmed the involvement of the arrested couple in three cases of bicycle thefts. Further investigation is on.
