Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of interactive portal of 2nd Indian Students Parliament,Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industries Jyotiraditya Scindia said if people collectively decide not to pay bribes, corruption will automatically get eliminated.
“It is just a matter of self discipline. You cannot expect the government to do that. It has to come from within,” he said.
Scindia put the onus of disciplining from childhood on parents. He said with both parents working and not having any quality time to spend with their kids, they tend to overlook many gross flaws in their kids. “This attitude of overlooking the flaws of your kids to avoid any confrontation is going to prove very costly for the family and the society at large,” he said.
Scindia also said instead of being just bystanders on the streets, people must intervene and stop something wrong from happening,”Recently, the news of two youths getting killed for protesting against molestation of their female friends by a bunch of goons is the best example. Both were killed in front of at least 40 bystanders, who did not bother to intervene and save them,” Scindia said.
He was referring to the killings of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandes last month in Mumbai for trying to save their female friends from a group of men who were trying to molest the girls.
