Upset over the civic administrations decision to oppose purchase of tempos for garbage collection, corporators have taken on the administration on issues related to waste management.
The decision on the civic administrations proposal was postponed,as the committee members had a lot of queries on the waste collection system of the PMC, said Vishal Tambe, chairperson of the standing committee.
He added that the corporators complained of door-to-door waste collection by SWACH representatives, saying that the service was not good. SWACH representatives are not regular in collecting waste and they charge more the amount decided by the civic body, Tambe said.
As the civic administration was unable to address all the queries,he said details of solid waste management would be tabled at the next meeting of the standing committee.
However,a member of the standing committee said the civic administration was turning a blind eye to the demand of corporators to purchase mini tempos for garbage collection. If they are worried about the increase in expenditure of PMC due to purchase of tempo, then they should also show efficiency in its existing waste collection system, he said.
PMC corporators had been pushing for purchase of mini tempos for collection of waste in their respective electoral wards from corporators fund, but the civic administration ruled out the proposal saying the options was not economically feasible. Apart from the cost of vehicle, the expenditure on driver, cleaner and fuel works out to around Rs 1,200 per day. The vehicle will cost around Rs 5 lakh.
