This panel is formed by merging three old electoral wards. While Ward 34 -Model Colony represented by BJP’s Jyotsana Sardeshpande is completely incorporated in this panel, parts of ward -35 Modern College represented by BJP’s Datta Khade is merged in this panel.
The area has seen Congress ruling when Anna Mukari was the corporator, which was later changed by Anil Shirole and Jyotsana Sardeshpande from 2002. She also said that the area of Bhosale Nagar,Ashok Nagar and Khairewadi had a BJP candidate on the second position. Hence, retaining BJP stronghold will not be difficult even in these new areas that are attached to my panel will not be difficult, said Sardeshpande. She added that since the candidatures are not yet fixed, the competition is not tough. However, more than the party,it is the individual that will matter for the voters in this area, Sardeshpande said.
The new panel reservation, which has one seat for open (women) and another for open candidate, will clearly see a fight between the Congress and BJP. The reservation was women candidates will help in providing basic facilities to the resident. Usually,as per my experience in ward and panel system, women corporators have their thrust on providing basic facilties like drinking water, power supply etc, whereas male corporators believe in road repairs, distributing benches in housing societies and so on, she said.
The corporators in this area said that with widening of nallah near Hare krishna Mandir, the problem of water accumulation in various parts of Model Colony has been resolved.
