Coming soon: a number to identify every UoP student

He said students of various colleges affiliated to the varsity will get unique identification numbers from this academic year. “This number will be with the students as well as colleges. The data regarding a student’s admission,examination,eligibility,degree certificate will be gradually uploaded on the UoP’s network. Then any department can verify the information by using thenumbe,reducing time and manpower,” he said.

He said the varsity is thinking of giving the number to former students too. “The number,however,is huge and it will take some time. We will start entering the data of those students who are in second or third year on priority basis,” he said.

“The non-teaching staff and faculty members will also get the number in the next three months. It will help in getting information related to faculty members and this can be used for appointing examiners,” he said.

He said the varsity was also thinking of undertaking evaluation online. “Besides,the varsity will start university lecture series where eminent personalities will deliver lectures that can be telecast live in all affiliated colleges using triple connectivity,” said Shevgaonkar.

Shevgaonkar said the examination department had completed the scanning of the degree certificates from 1948 to 2007. “We will upload these certificates on the website. If any company wants to verify the degree of a candidate,it can access it on the varsity’s website.”
