A system that can curtail virus attacks on computer networks as well as minimise false alerts of attacks, invented by city-based computer expert, received central government patent recently.
Aniruddha Joshi, chief investigator of Centre of Information and Network Security (CINS),a centre of the University of Pune, has recently received the certificate of granting patent for his invention, which he had filed four years ago. He invented the system for aggregating logs in a computer network and got patent for it,which is valid for 20 years from the date of filing.
Information and network securities is a growing area and wherever there are networks, security is of utmost importance. There are several security systems such as firewall and antivirus. However, management of security systems is also important. My work is related to this area of managed security services, said Joshi.
He said the system would help detect attacks as well as false alerts generated by security systems.
Joshi said that the development of this system was part of a CINS project submitted to the Union Ministry of IT in 2003. The project had received a funding worth Rs 4.4 crore from the government. CINS was established in 2002 with a vision to develop security systems for the computer networks, he said. Now,we are planning to start some degree courses in network and securities under University of Pune, said Joshi. We already have postgraduate diploma and certificate courses but as the demand for skilled manpower from the industry is growing,we are thinking of widening our activity. The aim is to create indigenous manpower and solutions for indigenous issues in network and securities, he said.
