6 warkaris killed,5 injured in car-truck collision
Six warkaris were killed and five others injured when a Pandharpur-bound Bolero car collided with a truck near Banpimpri village in Shrigonde tehsil of Nagar district on Thursday around 4 am. The six were from Bijapur district of Karnataka. This is the second such incident in last two days. On Wednesday,eight warkaris died near Shetphal in Solapur when a tempo carrying them was crushed between two trucks. Condition of three of them is said to be critical. The truck driver and the cleaner were also injured. Names of the persons killed are: Prabhakar Olpatti,Namdeo Kagar,Govind Shinde,Rajiv Kandri,Bheema Kagar and Prahlad Koli.
Inspectors son dies in accident
A 21-year-old engineering student,Sagar Yeole,son of senior inspector Rahul Yeole,died in a road mishap at Hadapsar around 4 pm on July 19,Sagar was going home on his motorcycle,when a speeding PMPML bus knocked him at Vaiduwadi on Pune -Solapur Road in Hadapsar. Sagar was admitted to Nobel Hospital on Saturday. He succumbed to his injuries in the early morning on Tuesday.
Lokmanya Tilak Award for Delhi CM Sheila Dixit
LOKMANYA Tilak Award for this year will be presented to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit on Lokmanya Tilaks 90th death anniversary on August 1. This is the 28th year of the award. Deepak Tilak,chairman of Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust,announced the award at a press conference on Thursday. The award comprises Rs 1 lakh,a gold medal,memento and citation. Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will be the chief guest. The previous recipients of the award are late Indira Gandhi,Atal Behari Vajpayee,Dr Manmohan Singh,Pranab Mukherjee,Madhavan Nair,Montek Singh Ahluwalia,N R Narayanamurthy and M S Swaminathan. Tilak said two books Lokmanya Tilak Ani Rashtriya Ekatmata and Adhunik Bharat Ke Janak will also be released on the occasion.
Poor response to helpline for women
A special toll-free police helpline run by Womens Grievance Redressal Cell of Pune police has received just over 100 calls since it was launched on May 26.
Mrudula Karawande,police inspector in-charge of the redressal cell tells,The number of calls that we received was much less than what we had expected. Looking at the number of cases that take place,the number of calls that we receive is very less.
Merit list out for admission to bifocal courses
The district professional education and training department published the provisional merit list for admission to bifocal courses for class XI on Thursday. Students can file their grievances on Friday till 4 pm. The provisional merit list is available at Fergusson,SP, Garware,Ness Wadia and Mhalsakant College,Akurdi.
