Chain-snatching menace: 4 incidents reported in 2 days

Chain-snatchers continued their free run in the city with four incidents being reported in two days. Of these,two incidents took place in the early hours of Wednesday,when the victims were offering prayers to the Saint Dnyaneshwar Palkhi in Vishrantwadi area.

A 45-year-old Vimal Gunjal,a resident of Alandi Road,was offering prayers to the palkhi,when two unidentified persons snatched her gold chain worth Rs 24,000 and fled on Wednesday. The incident took place near Big Bazar in Vishrantwadi. Gunjal lodged the complaint in this case at Vishrantwadi police station.

In another case,a 30 year old Seema Kulkarni of Dehu Phata was offering prayers to the palkhi when an unidentified person snatched gold chain worth Rs 38,000 from her neck around 7.30 am. Kulkarni also lodged complaint at Vishrantwadi police station.

Two motorcycle borne youths snatched a chain from Sharda Joshi (45) at Nigdi on Friday morning. The duo approached Joshi while she was standing near the compound of her residence in Nigdi. The duo asked Joshi directions to find an address but all of a sudden they snatched her gold chain worth Rs 20,000 and fled. Joshi lodged the complaint at Nigdi police station. Inspector P N Suprekar is investigating the case.

On Thursday,two youths on a motorcycle snatched a gold chain worth Rs 80,000 from 60-year-old Chaya Divakar as she was on her way to the daughter’s house in Shaniwar Peth at 9 pm.
