Move aimed at better redressal of citizens grievances, complaints
The Union Defence Ministry will soon set up three call centres in the cantonment boards at Dehu Road,Khadki and Pune to record the greivances of citizens. The officials at the call centres will take note of citizens’ complaints, received on phone or through SMS,and maintain a computerised record of them. They will also keep the citizens informed about the status of the complaint.
Chief Executive Officer of Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB),SVR Chandrashakhar, and Dehu Road CEO Prasad Chavan were on a three-day visit to Jhansi where the cantonment board is successfully running the call centres.
What we are doing is to set up a sophisticated call centre. People can register their complaints on phone and the software will record the voice and the manual recorder will note it down. Following the complaint,an SMS will be sent to the official concerned and I will take note of the complaint’s status, said Chandrashakhar.
The cantonment board need not recruit for running the call centres,Chavan said. “The call centre will be managed by our own staff and we need not recruit additional staff for this, he said, adding that the centre will come up in 2-3 months. “Initially the call centre will function during office hours but we plan to operate it round-the-clock later. A vocational training centre may also be set up,” said Chavan.
The call centres will function like computerised centres and will facilitate the grievance redressal system in the cantonment boards,” said Chandrashakhar.
PCB member Aarti Mahajan said it is important to have a dedicated staff to handle the complaints.
