Path of Righteousness

MIT Pune’s Philosopher Saint Shree Dnyaneshwara-Tukaram Endowment Lecture Series,a UNESCO chair program for Culture of Peace,at the World Peace Center (Alandi),began on Sunday and will go on till November 30. The event has been organised to commemorate the contributions of Saint Dnyaneshwara,Saint Tukaram and Swami Vivekananda towards the cultural renaissance of India. The organisers believe that the saints remind us that the path of our future social reconstruction and welfare is through the blending of scientific and spiritual values,which should form a common goal for humanity en masse.

Old School

The Association of Past Students Walchand College of Engineering,Sangli,hosted an alumni met for its Pune chapter on Saturday. The event,apart from providing a chance for the alumni to connect with each other,also featured an engineers’ meet during which outstanding alumni were felicitated for their engineering achievements. The meet was held at Hotel Harvest Club on D P Road,Karve Nagar.

Learning through Social Network

Singapore-headquartered Wiztango,has announced a technology collaboration with city-based SEED Infotech,to bring the power of social and informal learning to all its students across its wide network of more than 45 branches in India. The technology collaboration was initiated in Pune by Wiztango’s Chief Social Learner,Prashant Jain and Narendra Barhate,MD and CEO,SEED Infotech. Also present from Wiztango were its Pune technology centre representatives CTO,Vipul Kumar and Product Head,Afsar Shaikh. Present from SEED Infotech were Anant Varade,VP – Corporate Services. With its free,cloud-based social learning network and marketplace,Wiztango revolutionises the delivery and marketing of instructor-led classroom and virtual training for individual trainers,training enterprises and corporates. Speaking on the collaboration, Barhate said,“SEED will continue to pioneer the latest technology trends in learning methodologies to help empower each of our students in achieving their ambitions.” At the occasion,Jain said,“The learning revolution has begun and we are excited that one of India’s largest and recognised IT training companies share our vision and commitment to transform training into a learner-driven model.” Adding further to the occasion,Varade highlighted another notable initiative that SEED has launched: e-Guru-Kool which also leverages e-learning platform to deliver live online sessions for core engineering subjects,and provides focused tracks to make a career in IT.

Celebrating Culture

A unique cultural event was organised at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch in Swargate on November 19. This cultural event showcased Indian dances from all the states and were performed by over 200 students of Alva’s educational institutes in Moodbidri,a small village in Karnataka. Dr Mohan Alva is the brain behind this event through which he hopes to promote education and culture. The event received support from 19 Kannada associations from the city. A world cultural event will be held from December 19-22 at Moodbidri.

Music Meet

The Marathi Youth Entrepreneurs Club,popularly known as the MYE,put forth a musical fiesta for Puneites last week. The proceeds of the show are being donated to Prashanti Cancer Care Mission,an NGO dedicated to the cure and treatment of cancer in the community. World-renowned percussionist Sivamani gave a scintillating performance accompanied by Harmeet Manseta on the keyboard,vocalist Varijashree and child artiste Mohini. The club,which was founded by a few friends in November 2010,has been taking steps towards making a difference in the lives of the lesser privileged. The club now has more than 60 young dynamic members. With an annual membership fee,the club meets once a month and has a dual objective of networking and supporting social causes. Attending the event were Commissioner of Police Gulabrao Pol,Deputy Mayor Sunil Gaikwad,Kapil Dhole Patil,Kunal Mhaske,Sabina Sanghvi,Varsha Chordia and Sonya Rau Laleh Busheri amongst others.
