Burglars kill trader, decamp with valuables worth Rs 3 lakh

Police said that the two brothers own a grocery shop next to their house, and it was Narayan who would regularly open the shop at 9 am and be present there till 6 pm.

A 55-year-old trader was found murdered at his home in Shivajinagar, near Mangala Talkies, on Sunday. Police suspect that the trader, Narayan Hasanand Nagdev, was attacked by burglars who broke into the house in the wee hours of Sunday, before decamping with cash, ornaments and a television set. An FIR has been registered by his brother Gangaram Nagdev.

Police said that the two brothers own a grocery shop next to their house, and it was Narayan who would regularly open the shop at 9 am and be present there till 6 pm. Gangaram would usually close the shop at around 8 pm.

Narayan lived alone in the house next to the shop.

A police officer said on Saturday night, after closing the shop, Gangaram had kept cash amounting to Rs one lakh in a shelf in the room where Narayan usually slept.

On Sunday, when Gangaram went to the shop, he found it closed and Narayan did not respond to his calls. When Gangaram went to the room, he found his brother lying on the bed unresponsive. He found several wounds including stab marks and strangulation marks on his neck.

He immediately called the police and initial probe revealed that cash worth Rs one lakh, gold ornaments and a TV set (all totalling Rs 3.15 lakh) were stolen from the house. Police are checking footages from security cameras installed in the vicinity. An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 379 (theft).
