Boy drowns in PMC pool

A teenager drowned in a swimming pool run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Bhau Patil Road in Bopodi on Tuesday afternoon.

A teenager drowned in a swimming pool run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Bhau Patil Road in Bopodi on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Akash Vijay Chavan of Kamble Wasti in Bopodi. Primary investigation by the police revealed that Chavan suffered from ‘fits’ while swimming and then drowned.

The incident has been registered as an accident at the Khadki police station. Police said there were life guards at the swimming pool,but before they could come to his rescue,Chavan had drowned after suffering fits. The life guards took him out from the tank and rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

He is survived by his parents. His father is a conservancy worker with the PMC. His mother works at the Balewadi sports complex. Police said Chavan was a school drop out.
