Music is magic. Be it for fun sake, therapy or for that matter identity and uniformity. Playing on the same magic of music, many corporate offices and other business houses are now having their own corporate song / anthem. Though the top management cited various reasons, but for the staff it turned out to be pure fun and matter of identity.
Aab hai chuneko asma taiyar, hum hai blue lotus mere yaar,Hum chale saath saath leke haathon mein hath
The above mention couplet from the office song of Blue Lotus Communications was the brainchild of Debaditya Chaudhury, branch head of Blue Lotus Communicdation,Kolkata. Surprisingly,Chaudhury is also a member of a Bengali rock band,Lakkhichhara. I Feel music is the best way to motivate people. We composed the song keeping in mind the company and the current trend. I have used much hip-hop and rap music in the song to make it sound full of energy. The idea was to keep our staff high-spirited and boost their confidence level. We first played the song during our annual award ceremony called the Blues .
DarodeJog Properties did follow the idea, but with a difference. The whole idea here was to make staff feel at home and establish an emotional attachment with their work.
Dekhate hi dil mein samaya,Maine aisa ghar hai paya,Is ghar ke aangan mein, khushiyaan sapnonki,Aaisa hi ghar ho sabka, pyar jatata.
Explaining the idea behind having the song,Rugwed Deshpande, director,Setu Advertising, says,Song is the poetic expression that conveys brand value and unique positioning points and connects with the customer. It also has better recall value. From marketing point of view, song can also be converted into non-verbal music tunes.
Art director ,DarodeJog Properties,Yogesh Deshpande is the composer and the lyricist.
When asked about the occasion when the song is sung,Deshpande says,We are positioning this song as an audio logo (identity) of the brand. We use it during the ‘handing over ceremony’ of the apartments. The tune has also been set as a dialer tone for company’s group mobile.
About the future plans,Deshpande says,We do try to maintain uniformity, but we take enough care to avoid monotony under the name of identity.
Oceans Connect (OC),however, has introduced a new dimension to already creative aspect. The song at OC is: We are OPL,Hear us coz we are loud,All the loyal fans around us totally proud,Evolve, energize, excel,we pledge we are OPL
The idea of OPL did not sound very clear until,Sagar Naik, head of training department explained. He says,We serve the UK,where football is very popular. So we names each of our department on the names of famous football club in UK,like — Manchester United,Liverpool FC and many other. And we called ourselves Ocean Premier League (OPL). This not only encourages healthy competition among the various departments, but also boosts the acceptance and involvement of the staff on personal level. We have not hired any professional from outside and thus the making of the song was itself very involving.
When asked that on which occasions the song is played,Jennifer Sebastian, team leader,HRM,says,The song being full of life is usually sung during the office partiesor get together, however the song was first sung during the opening ceremony of OPL, adding,Harshad Havele, one of our employee has composed the song.
Leader of the trend is United India Insurance(UII) that introduced the corporate anthem concept a good three years back.
Every Monday at 11 am,all the staff and officers of the Poona regional office of UII come together to sing the corporate anthem. We also sing the song during our training sessions,” says Mashalkar SO,manager.
The lyrics is: Yehi hai united India . sabhi ko lekar chalne wala
The music for the anthem has been composed by renowned music director A R Rahman and that makes it more special. The lyrics and music is very inspirational and encourages every staff to work sincerely. It also makes the staff feel important and a part of the organisation, he adds.
