Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM),Yogesh Bachal,on Friday alleged that the contractor who provided around 250 non-teaching staff to Pune University in August 2008 had misappropriated their provident fund money.
He claimed the provident fund to be given to these employees for 22 months amounts to Rs 1 crore. Bachal had asked for information regarding contract labourers working in the university through an RTI filed on January 25.
He claimed there was no mention whether the contractor had deposited the provident fund money in the account or not. As per norms, contractor should have given this information to the university. However, there is no such information available with the authorities, he claimed. He also said the contractor extended the contract of 250 peons and clerks without any proper procedure.
Initially the contract was for 11 months, but it was extended to another 11 months without any procedure, he said.
On the other hand, payment of these employees vary from person to person though as per calculations, each non-teaching staff should receive Rs 4,700 per month after deducting provident fund, professional tax and CSI. Some employees could get the said amount, however, others got money in the range of Rs 3500 to Rs 4200 per month, said Bachal.
He also claimed the varsity could not even provide names and addresses of these employees though they were working in the university for two years. When contacted, registrar of university,ML Jadhav refused to comment on the allegations, saying the university had provided all the information in the reply given to the queries submitted by Bachal under RTI.
