In the city for the promotion of her debut Marathi film,Mani Mangalsutra, actress Hrishita Bhatt feels that cinema as a medium is not restrained by language
Call her the girl next door,or the doe-eyed beauty, but dressed in a Marathi Nauvari saree with a traditional tikka on her forehead and her hair rolled in a bun, actor Hrishita Bhatt resembled a typical Maharashtrian woman. In the city on Tuesday for promoting her maiden Marathi film,Mani Mangalsutra,Bhatt spoke about her journey as an actor so far. Visibly enthusiastic about this film,Bhatt who has earlier acted in films like Haasil,Shararat,Asoka,Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Ab Tak Chhappan amongst other films,is playing the character of Savitri in the film,a lady who has been in a live-in relationship for 30 years.
Bhatt says that the role will go a long way in expanding the horizons of her career. Speaking more about it a smiling Bhatt says,”This is a role that I have loved doing. I had to play the entire life span of a character which was a real challenge.”And how does she deal with the transition of her character from her 20’s to 60’s? I am quite a brave person that way and I really dont have any inhibitions in playing the role of an old woman,if my character demands it, she adds.
The actor who became a household name after her Liril and the recent Limca advertisements believes that her soul is that of a performer’s and that is why she is constantly on the lookout for pursuing a diverse set of roles. So right from advertisement to item number and from Haasil’s intense role to the mainstream roles in commercial cinema,Bhatt has done them all. But how does she pick and choose what she wants to do? ” I don’t think too much,I just feel that it is important to relate to what you are doing and enjoy it. In fact I love to surprise myself and that is what keeps me going,” she shares.
Bhatt had earlier worked in Bengali and Bhojpuri films and even movies down south. Speaking about her trsyt with regional films she says,”I don’t think its about the language,I think cinema is a universal medium and language should not be a barrier. Since I love learning new languages,I pick them up quickly and that helps me in my roles, but I never take up a role until I like the character. So basically I wouldn’t call it a regional film.” Sure enough as Bhatt starts to speak Marathi to her co-stars,it is apparent that she has picked up a lot. “I practiced long and hard to get the accent right. It was difficult, but I managed it pretty well,” she says.
Having learnt Kathak since the age of seven she says that she loves dancing. “In fact I am waiting for a dance oriented movie to come, because that is one thing I really want to do,” she says. And which is the one role she always wanted to play? ” I think Sridevi’s role in Chalbaaz was amazing, that is one thing I would like to do,though of course Sridevi did it in the best possible way,” she says.
