“The Best Thing About You is You,” said actor Anupam Kher at the launch of his book of the same name in the city on Wednesday. Kher was a tad late for the launch, the reason being that he ended up at the wrong Crossword store! When he finally reached the right one at Senapati Bapat Road,it was close to 7.30 pm. After a quick apology,he got straight to talking about his book, his inspiration. The actor hails from a lower middle class family from Shimla and his father’s monthly income was Rs 90 but happiness came cheap at the Kher household. “The book traces the importance of self-confidence and hard work in a person’s life,” Kher said. Present on the occasion were Dr K H Sancheti and Deepika Singh, the vice chair person of Society of Friends of the Sassoon Hospitals (SOFOSH). In an interaction with the readers,Kher narrated the ordeals he went through during his initial days in Mumbai. He came with a meager Rs 37 in his pocket to the city of dreams. I was the first graduate in my family to earn Rs 10,000,and I even spent some days at the Mumbai railway stations, said Kher. He has dedicated his book to his grandfather who was his inspiration. I strongly believe in my grandfather’s words who said that ‘ bheega hua aadmi baarish se nahin darta’ (A man who is already wet isn’t afraid of the rain). It motivates me to face life, success and failure.
