Bar Association resolution against driver

The Pune Bar Association (PBA) called for an emergency general body meeting on Wednesday after the bus driver went on a rampage in the city. “We have appealed to all our member lawyers not to file vakalatnama for the ST bus driver Santosh Mane,” said advocate Amol Kajale-Patil,secretary of the bar association.

“It is an extremely shameful incident and we do not want any of us to represent Mane in the court of law,” Kajale-Patil said.

A similar resolution was passed by the lawyers’ body when German Bakery blast accused Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig was arrested in September 2010.

However,defying the resolution,advocate A Rehman had filed vakalatnama for Baig stating that every accused has a right to be represented in the court.

After initial opposition from the lawyers’ body,Rehman continues to be Baig’s lawyer.
