Special judge (anti-corruption) S N Sardesai on Wednesday granted bail to police inspector (crime) Maya Bankar of Shivajinagar police and her writer head constable Rajendra Raut arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000. The two were released against a personal bond of Rs 15,000 each under the condition that they would report to the anti-corruption bureau on Mondays and Thursdays for three months.
The duo was produced before the court on Wednesday afternoon. The ACB said Yakub Hussain Shaikh (54),president of Shahi Masjid Trust in Shivajinagar,had filed the complaint in this regard. Bankar had allegedly called Yakub,saying that a complaint had been filed against him. She told Yakub that he would be arrested under Section 151 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to avoid arrest.
Yakub filed a complaint against Bankar at the ACB,Pune office on Monday. An ACB team,comprising deputy superintendents B M Kale,Dilip Jagdale,inspectors Prakash Shinde,Kanchan Jadhav,Ashwini Satpute and others,laid a trap and arrested Raut while accepting Rs 5,000 on the instructions of Bankar at the police station around 4.45 pm.
