Bad Joke

Comic plays have an instant attraction to them - they promise cheaper avenues of finding some good laughs.

Comic plays have an instant attraction to them – they promise cheaper avenues of finding some good laughs. So on Sunday,July 24,when Niche Stagekraft announced the showcase of not one,but two Hindi comic plays,it generated the feeling of having hit a double jackpot! Held at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan at Maldhakka chowk, the two plays were called Beeti Baatein and Killer Kadki . The former dealt with the confessions of an old couple to each other about past wrongs, major and minor. These scenes from the past were simultaneously re-enacted. The latter play dealt with the unlikely premise of a student wanting to ease financial problems by extricating a refund from his educational institution. The audience chuckled through the show, but the comedy and acting was disappointing slapstick. To add to it,the pace of the narrative was sketchy and actors often forgot lines. The overall effect wasn’t as funny as expected.
