A 25-Year-Old female BPO employee,who forgot her purse in an auto- rickshaw in which she had travelled was in for a pleasant surprise when the driver called her to return her purse. As a mark of appreciation for the drivers honesty,she handed him Rs 200.
She was,however, in for a rude shock when he demanded Rs 1,000 from her! When she refused,he forcibly took the money from her following which the BPO employee lodged a complaint.
The auto-rickshaw driver was arrested and identified as Mohammed Hussain Munir Shaikh (31),a resident of Udyog Nagar,Mohammedwadi in Hadapsar.
Police said the complainant Shweta Kailassingh Sisodiya,a native of Indore and currently residing at Kesari Punam Park in Viman Nagar,is an employee of a BPO in Magarpatta city.
Shewta and her friend had taken an auto-rickshaw from Inox multiplex to Hotel Sampanna in Pune Camp around 10 pm on Thursday. While having dinner at the hotel,she realised she had forgotten her purse. The auto-rickshaw driver Mohammed Shaikh then called her to say he would be returning her purse. The auto-rickshaw driver reportedly got her number from some documents that were in her purse and contacted her.
She told him to reach Hotel Sampanna. After the driver reached the place and returned the purse,Shewta gave him Rs 200 for his honesty,but Shaikh demanded Rs 1,000. He forcibly took it from her.
She then lodged the complaint at Pune Cantonment police station. A police patrol team launched a search and arrested Shaikh under section 385,506 (1) of IPC. Police produced him before the magistrate court on Friday,where the magistrate remanded him to police custody for a day.
