The latest buzzword in hospitality, service apartments offer guests made-to-order food, akin to that available at home

Have you missed the comfort and reliability of home-cooked food when out on a business trip or a short stay out of town? If it feels like you’ve been there and done that,a new concept in hospitality, particularly in the service apartment category,is fast catching up in Pune. From made-to-order food,to placing a chef at your service,to preparation of Jain food, this whole new concept is set to take things in the hotel industry to a whole different level.

As Sajid Dhannani, managing director,Sayaji Hotels says,“For people who have to travel on business,it’s more about doing a job than enjoying their stay. It’s for this reason that we have come up with the concept of providing food which is as good as home-cooked food and have also detailed a chef at the disposal of our guests in their rooms.” The USP of this idea is that guests can order any kind of food they want and have it served to them right in front of them. For regular travelers, this is the most sought-after aspect of staying in a service apartment. Long durations out of home makes getting to consume home-cooked food a luxury and when that is served to them, the guests find their stay worthwhile.

Fast catching up in the city, with many well-known and some not so well-known service apartments providing this service,it’s the latest buzzword in the hospitality industry. One such popular service apartment is the Oakwood Residence at Naylor Road. “We do have made-to-order food service as part of our regular package and it’s something which the guests have appreciated a lot. It gives them a feel of having food cooked at home while being away from home,” informs Vrushali Kummar of Oakwood Residence. “At present, putting a chef at the disposal of guests is not part of the standard package but it can be provided to guests at an extra cost,” she adds.

A regular traveler to metros around the country,Aliasgar Mir says finding places which serve home-cooked food is a boon as long durations out of home makes it necessary to find such joints. “More than the craving,it’s also about taking care of my health, since eating spicy restaurant food all the time is not healthy at all,” he says. “I make it a point to have simple but nutritious food while on outstation trips as that has become a part of my life now,” he adds.

So,whether it is ordering your favourite salad or settling for a simple fare of Dal and Roti or even trying out the healthy continental grub on offer, both guests and hospitality establishments are realising that when away from home, nothing works as well as home-cooked food. Making the most out of this growing trend, other hotels and service apartments are sure to follow suit in the near future.
