The recently renovated Silk Route restaurant,which serves food from the Oriental side of the silk route,promises a lot yet fails to deliver a punch
The silk route is one of the world’s oldest trading paths. Named after that historical passage,this restaurant,situated in Koregaon Park,deals with the Asian side Japan,China,Vietnam,Korea and Thailand.
With wood-panelled walls and low lighting,the interiors of this recently renovated restaurant are fairly comfortable. We start our meal with Thai Tom Yum Soup which is pleasantly reminiscent of the south Indian rasam,yet has a dash of lemon grass that gives this vegetarian soup an unmistakable Thai flavour. However,the Shikumchiguk Korean chicken soup is not as appealing.
The starters,on the whole,were disappointing. The Veg Teriyaki has the promise of a great dish,but falls flat as far as taste is concerned. The Wok-tossed chicken is a more wholesome dish,but a sweet aftertaste prevents it from becoming a truly spectacular dish. The shredded lamb was disappointing. In getting the lamb crispy,the dish got slightly burnt.
In main course,the Phad thai noodles veg was an interesting dish,flat and thick. The Spicy rice and basil was excellent,a great combination with the Thai curry chicken. However,the Stir fried Chinese green veggies was just a little more than boiled vegetables.
The dessert saved the day. The sizzling chocolate brownie and the honey-tossed noodles with ice-cream made for an interesting combination of sweet and crunchy.
The verdict: Stick to the Thai dishes.
