All roads lead to Wankhede

IT has been Zaheer’s childhood dream to win the World Cup.

“IT has been Zaheer’s childhood dream to win the World Cup. If India win,the players will fulfill the nation’s dream,” said Zaheer Khan’s brother Zeeshan on his way to Mumbai on Friday. Zeeshan will be at Wankhede on Saturday to cheer for his brother and Team India.

Quite a few seats at the stadium will be occupied by fans from Pune. Aditya Sabharwal,24,said,“I got lucky with the ‘lucky draw’ of the official ticketing website. Since the site had crashed, they conducted a lucky draw and I got a ticket. Coincidentally,a friend,Hashim Khanyari, also got two tickets. Hashim, his wife and I are watching it live. I have the jersey for cheering the team.”.

Sweta and Parikshit Dalmiya were gifted tickets. “My in-laws in Mumbai gifted us tickets,” said Sweta. “We decided to drive to Mumbai with friends Hasnain and Ishrath Virani. Hasnain is wearing the Indian jersey, the rest of us are in blue,” she added. The only thing they are sad about is Nehra missing out. “It’s disappointing because he played well in the semis,” she said.

Bhisham Parwani, who is into the realty business, received a ticket from his cousin as a birthday gift on Friday. He said,“I have a jersey and a flag. I will cheer for India till the end.” Entrepreneur Tehseen Poonawalla, who watched the semis at Mohali, says,“I have a friend,Anurag Thakur,in the BCCI and I watched the Mohali match with him in his box. We will be watching it together at Mumbai too.”

Fitness Instructor Supriya Mohite said,“We are in a big group, including Manish and Mamta Jain,Rajesh and Nikita Kasat,Gauri and Avinash Bhosle and friends from Mumbai. We have a box and are excited. I watched the Mohali match. It was superb. Our players are in good form, playing the best.”

Ishanya director Parul Mehta’s son Yeshil Mehta also decided to drive to Mumbai. He said,“I bought my ticket after the India-Australia quarter-final. I was certain we would make it to the final.” Mehta bought his jersey 10 days before the Cup started. Friends in Mumbai are joining him. “Some of us will be in Garware Pavilion and some in the Sunil Gavaskar stand.”
