Alandi Devasthan leases out 25 acres for garbage processing

For the first time, the Alandi Municipal Council will have a garbage processing unit ahead of the palkhi procession next month.

For the first time, the Alandi Municipal Council will have a garbage processing unit ahead of the palkhi procession next month. Even as the two selected sites for garbage processing in Pune —Vadu and Tulapur — have been cancelled by District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, the Alandi Devasthan will lease out its land for garbage processing to the Alandi Municipal council. The site is located three km away from the Alandi Devasthan.

With nearly 10 tonnes of garbage generated every day,the municipal council did not have land to dump garbage and would use the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s facility at Moshi. On Wednesday, district collector Chandrakant Dalvi had issued orders to the municipal council to negotiate with the Alandi Devasthan regarding leasing of land for processing garbage generated and the municipal council will stand to get 25 acres for this purpose,3 kms away from the main devasthan. Resident Deputy Collector Anil Pawar said that the issue has been sorted out and the land will be given on lease as it was earlier grazing land for nominal charges to the municipal council.

Initially the area will see garbage dumping followed by garbage processing with the municipal council approaching the state governement for grant to install a garbage processing unit. “Having a land for this purpose was our main concern. Now with the issue resolved we will be forwarding the proposal to the government,” said a member from the council. While the devasthan authorities had agreed to lease out land to the municipal council for nominal charges

The sansthan which owns 300 acres is ready to give 25 acres for this facility. Members had a discussion on Wednesday ahead of the wari on July 5. The temple town will have the Sant Dynaneshwar Maharaj palkhi procession from Alandi to Pandharpur.

The silver chariot will be a major attraction this year. Around 350 dindis will be a part of the pilgrimage. The local municipal council is carrying out cleaning work ahead of the wari.

Alandi municipal council representatives said that proper arrangements were being made to provide drinking water to warkaris and were taking help of the PCMC. 200 mobile toilets and 50 council workers and lodging arrangements are being made ahead of the wari. The temple trust officials expect at least two lakh pilgrims for the procession.
