Prior to joining Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) around 13 years ago,Shrikant Mohan Yadav was working with Forbes Marshall,a city-based engineering company. A mechanical engineer,Yadav was drawing a decent salary but had no fixed office hours. The fact that he was not able to live his passion theatre and acting was bothering him.
So when he joined BSNL at a lesser salary,Yadav did not regret his decision as it allowed him to spare time to realise his passion. Currently, working as a retail manager in the marketing section,Yadav is living his dream. Until now,he has acted in several Marathi films such as Valu,Deool,Vihir,Masala,Pune 52 and Night School. In his upcoming film Ajoba that traces the story of a leopard he will be seen playing the role of a local forest officer.
Recalling his journey in the Marathi cinema,he says that earlier he was a part of a theatre group which had his close friends Girish Kulkarni and Umesh Kulkarni both renowned names in the industry today. Later,I was a part of the production team in Umeshs films Vihir and Girni. Infact,I just had one scene in Vihir with no dialogue where I had to express my emotions through my eyes. When Vihir was nominated at Berlin Film Festival and we had a press conference,a number of questions referred to that scene, he recalls.
Post Vihir,Yadav not only participated in the production work of Valu but also played the character of Suresh in the film which did extremely well.
Working in national-award winning Deool and playing the character of Appa Galande,he says, was like attending an acting workshop with veterans. The film stars stalwarts of the Marathi film industry like Nana Patekar,Mohan Agashe,Sonali Kulkarni,Dilip Prabhavalkar, he says, adding that when he got nominated in the category of best supporting actor for the same film at the MIFTA Award, his confidence got a boost.
When asked how he manages to take out time for shoots from his work schedule,Yadav said,When I joined BSNL,I did not take too many leaves in the first three-four years and kept accumulating them. Now,I am able to use them. Besides, since I dont play the lead roles,I am not required on sets at a stretch for a month or so. I make sure that my profession is not ignored.
Yadav added that at BSNL too,he actively participates in the cultural activities every year. Working at BSNL gives me the freedom and security of being selective about my roles and not accept any role that I am offered, he says.
Yadav is elated with the fact that he got an opportunity to work in Ajoba in which he has several shots with top Hindi film actress Urmila Matondkar. One gets to learn so much while working with people who are experienced in the field. I am still in the learning mode, he says.
Yadav aims to find a role in a Hindi film some day. It is everybodys ultimate dream, he says, adding that besides Ajoba he is also looking forward to his other upcoming films Saam Daam Danda Bheda,Premacha Asach Asta and Ek Hajarachi Note.
