After objections from a civic activist regarding the anomalies in the tender procedure for the purchase of medicines this year, the Pune Municipal Corporation admitted the flaws in the tender procedure, cancelled the tender and re-issued it.
The civic administration on Thursday cancelled the tender for it. Vijay Kumbhar, president of Surajya Sangharsha Samiti, has demanded action in this case.
He had written that when medicines were to be purchased for government establishments, the medicines should be purchased in generic form. Instead of buying these medicines from pharmaceuticals, these medicines have been purchased from small-time vendors. “These vendors do not sell generic medicines and each brand has different rates. Besides this,in the tender document, the civic administration had put up a condition that the concerned company should have an annual turnover of Rs 75 lakh,” the letter said.
Kumbhar had questioned according to which government rule, this condition has been mentioned. He further stated that the tender did not mention the name of these medicines. “The tender did not even mention the expiry dates of the medicines and therefore, there is a likelihood of such medicines to be sold at cheaper rates than the new ones,” the letter by Kumbhar said. The civic administration on Thursday held a meeting to open the bids for the tender. The deadline for filing tenders had got over last week. However, during the meeting, the civic administration discussed the anomalies and finally decided to re-issue the tenders instead of tabling them before the standing committee.
