The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested a junior engineer of Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSECL) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from an electrician contractor for sanctioning new electricity connection and meters.
Electrician contractor Sanjay Sahebrao Irale (28) of B T Kawde Road,Mundhwa,lodged a complaint against suspect Sachin Subhash Kale,38,of MSEDCL Ganga Village branch,Hadapsar on October 19.
The ACB said seven persons,Nanda Jadhav,Chandrakant Tilekar,Sadhu Keval,Rameshwarlal Gayri,Babulal Parmar,Bapu Devkule and Kavita Mulchandanim all residents of Mohammedwadi,Hadapsar had filed applications for new electricity connection and electricity meters with Ganga village branch between May and August 2012. The applicants also paid the charges as per norms at the MSEDCL office at Bund garden.
Irale had asked Kale to sanction the electricity connections and meters. However,Kale allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 per meter for the purpose. Kale said he would sanction the new connection immediately on receiving Rs 7,000.
In August,Irale allegedly paid Rs 5,000 to Kale. But Kale said he would sanction the new connections only after the remaining Rs 2,000 was paid.
The ACB team comprising deputy superintendent B M Kale,inspectors Vinod Satav,Vaishali Galande,havaldar Vijay Mali,naik Yogesh Pawar,constable Vinod Zagade laid a trap at the MSEDCL office at Ganga Village,Handewadi,around 11.15 am on Saturday. They nabbed Kale while accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 from Irale.
