Whether he wins or loses,Pune can hope to be a lot more green if Bahujan Samaj Party candidate for the Lok Sabha constituency,D S Kulkarni, keeps his word. He has promised a tree for each vote he gets. I have decided to plant as many saplings in the city as the number of votes I get during the LS polls, Kulkarni said.
Asked about the number of votes he was expecting to bag,he said,I suppose I will have to plant seven lakh saplings. Kulkarni said he planned to plant the saplings within a year of the elections, irrespective of his victory or defeat.
He has another plan on his agenda. For that he wants to invite the other candidates for a discussion.
The candidates of other political parties contesting from Pune have more or less a common manifesto for the development of Pune and it would be good to meet one another. Therefore,I have invited other candidates to my place. Whoever wins the election should work for the development of the city and this is what we will discuss at the meeting.
I earnestly feel there should be a subject on civic sense in the curricula right from the kindergarten up to the post-graduate level, which would give lessons on not spitting on the roads and not parking vehicles in the wrong way, among other things. I will strive to make this a reality.
Kulkarni said that senior citizens deserve a prominent place in society and should not be kept at old-age homes.
There should be no old-age homes in the city and those who are placed there should be given residential space in housing projects. He said the same should be true for the womens self-help groups.
On the comment by Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi that Kulkarni should protect his deposit,he said,It is a positive thing that Kalmadi has asked me to care for my deposit. My deposit will remain intact and there is absolutely no need to think about losing it.
He added,Even though I am quite young in politics,I have seen a lot in the past 55 years including the problems faced by slum-dwellers,lack of health and educational facilities, water pollution and traffic problems in the city, which are growing by the day. I decided to enter politics to improve the situation.
