Classical vocalist Nirali Kartik will present her unique blend of traditional music and jazz at a performance in the city
Ahmedabad-born classical vocalist Nirali Kartik has been training in music since the past 15 years,but she still clearly remembers when she was first admitted to Saptak School Of Music at the age of nine. “My mother,a singer herself,has always encouraged and inspired me and my brother,a tabla player,to include music in our lives” she says.
Kartik has performed at music festivals across India and in many countries in Europe. Her dedication to music has grown to become the central focus of her life. She has collaborated with many world music artists and also is the lead vocalist in her band called ‘Maati Baani’. She,along with her band members Shankar Tucker,Kartik Shah and Amit Mishra,will be performing at Osho International Meditation Resort,Koregaon Park,on June 10. They will present classical music with elements of jazz infused in it.
A recipient of the Shrestha Sadhak award by Gujarat Sangeet Natak Kala Academy,Kartik is currently based in Mumbai and is married to music composer and music producer,Kartik Shah. When asked what kind of reactions she receives,Nirali said “People are thrilled and amazed at the kind of music I present. I enter the mood of raga while performing,” she says.
Apart from concerts,she keeps singing and experimenting with classical music daily,and practices till she is confident of her piece. “My journey until now has been very musical. I feel blessed and wonderful,as I could get the opportunity to learn classical music,which is a magical gift. For me,everything revolves around music,and it always will as this is something I treasure and thank god for,” she says.
