Young music bands are set to use the power of music to collect money to benefit the children of Akanksha Foundation

The events page on the website of Concepts,an intercollegiate students’ forum for events, flashes the words: ‘Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.’ Their to-do lists are choc-a-bloc with last minute work for ‘Imagine – Music Heals’,a rock show that will contribute in improving the lives of few underprivileged children. The event will witness participation from over 20 bands at One Lounge,Koregaon Park,on March 25 and the money collected from the sale of passes will be donated to Akanksha Foundation,a non-profit organisation which primarily provides education to underprivileged children of the society.

“We have been engaged in many social events for the past ten years. With over 50 members in Concepts now,we wanted to do something to involve several youngsters at the same time. A rock show seemed the perfect way of bringing together the youth of the city,” says Arush Saxena, the event head of Imagine and a member of Concepts.

It hasn’t been a tiring fortnight for the members of Concepts alone. Band members are also doing their bit to reach out to as many people as possible. From sticking posters to inviting friends and acquaintances, these youngsters are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a full house. “The beauty of music is different from any other medium of art. It can reach out to hundreds in a moment,” says Kaushik Sinha, manager of Noiseware,a city based experimental flash metal band. Noiseware opened for Porcupine Tree sometime back but jamming for a cause like this has been a different experience for them. “It delights us to think that our efforts and music will help a child complete her education. As a band,we are now looking forward to many such charitable events,” adds Kaushik. Noiseware has created a personal event page on social networking sites to inform people. “We want to do our bit in promoting such a noble event,” says Kaushik.

“We are expecting a change in the crowd that will come to listen to us not only out of their passion for metal tracks but to also lend a helping hand to the underprivileged children. It will be a good platform for us to increase our fan base,” says Jinu Varghese of Amongst Denied,a metal core band.

In the past,Concepts has organised seminars, workshops and lectures to help students crack entrance exams and job interviews. “But,our association with NGOs has made us work for the society at large,” adds Arush who has been voluntarily teaching the children at Akanksha Foundation.
