A bench to take up litigants’ cause

“There are over 5 crore litigants in the country who make rounds of the courts wasting precious time and energy. NLB is a novel initiative to represent the cause of these hapless litigants who approach judiciary to mitigate their problems as the last resort,” said Manoj David,co-founder of NLB.

NLB will have weekly meetings at the local level where member-litigants will discuss their problems. “Fellow litigants will try to resolve them according to their knowledge and experience. We plan to make it a group of litigants working for the litigants. Common or recurring issues of litigants will be monitored and conveyed to the respective state law minister regularly,” David said.

NLB is the brainchild of Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF),an organisation that works for men’s rights. While NLB’s mission is to create awareness among the judicial officers about the problems faced by the common litigants in court room,the forum will also strive for transparent judicial appointments on merit and bring about litigant friendly procedures in the courts,” said Gokul P R,spokesperson of NLB.

On its formation in September,the NLB had prepared a charter of demands that was forwarded to Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily. Some of the demands were to redefine litigant friendly forms and procedure for criminal and civil procedures,to establish a litigant grievance redressal cell.
